The Federal Court is letting a challenge proceed regarding the 2011 election results in seven ridings across the country.
A group of voters, backed by the Council of Canadians, wants the court to overturn the results because of allegations of misleading phone calls that attempted to send voters to the wrong polling stations.
Overturning the results would mean a byelection in each riding.

An interesting question asked on rasfw whose answer I do not know:
I've never encountered the name Seva (which the poster thinks is was a made-up god* whose name was inspired by Shiva) before and can be of no help to them.
* Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean.
My father named me after a character in a Science Fiction novel that was
published some time prior to 1955. The character was Seva, the Greek
Goddess of Destruction. Unfortunately, I never thought to ask him for
the name of the book before he passed away. I'd really like to find it.
Can anyone help me ?

Recently someone asked Whedon about the whole "no Asians in a setting supposedly heavily influenced by China" thing:
The questioner's account of the encounter
The questioner knew they'd have to be careful about the phrasing of any follow up question lest irate Firefly fans tear him limb from limb, like an Orpheus confronted by stars-and-bars waving Maenads, which sadly precluded a follow-up question from being asked at all.
In Whedon's defense, when you're making a thinly veiled tribute to the degenerates of the failed slaver rebellion in the form of a hack Bat Durston TV show and movie, it's hard to remember to polish the patina of one's supposed liberalism with a more inclusive casting policy.

Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is throwing cold water on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's proposal to banish people who have been convicted of gun crimes from living in the city.
"Obviously we can't tell people which city we can and can't live in," Kenney said in an interview on radio station CFRB Newstalk 1010 on Friday.
Today's weird fact
Jul. 20th, 2012 11:53 pmThere's evidence Neanderthals were right-handed. This made me wonder how far back handedness goes in humans and our relatives. Turns out most of the Great Apes are righties, so pretty far back.
There is at least one exception: orangutans tend to be left-handed.
Anyone know about handedness in monkeys?
