Date: 2009-02-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(firstly my bona fides, I comment occasionally on ML under my actual name, which I'd be happy to confirm to you - I'm thinly disguised here under this handle mainly to keep my journal away from the knowledge of employers etc. To the extent that I "know" anybody in the big row it's the ML/rasf* people. This is my first comment anywhere about this, I think.)
Whether Carlos's misreading is wilful or not, I think it's maybe the _more_ likely reading for someone else who's not really familiar with you. I saw your post/comment quoted after I had heard the varying interpretations. When I did read it, _I_ took it that you were speaking primarily as a fan and referring to someone's future interactions with fandom, particularly those online fannish communities that you're involved with, and emphasising that comments in the current context would be part of their continuing reputation/"whuffie" etc.
But then, I am familiar with your methods as moderator/site host in various places. I can easily see how other people could take it a different way and imagine that you were speaking as with reference to your professional work as an editor (and as a teacher at VP etc.) It's a misreading maybe arising out the fact that they see you as Big Name Editor first and foremost.
