She got lucky. The other R&B/rockish singer who came out at the same time with empowering lyrics that ran counter to the general trend of the Brittany/Christina era disappeared into obscurity after one album.

Thanks for these--and indeed I'd never heard of Res. I like a bit more range in singers in my own approximate range, but that only means trying a few more of her videos....
