As someone who read the Kushiel books more for the worldbuilding than the sex, I can see where Volsky might appeal to Carey fans. They both take existing (usually European) cultures and put a secondary-world spin on them.

I really like Volsky back in the '90s, too: I might have picked those up if they'd released it under that name.

The paperback was in print in December, when I sent copies to a fellow Volsky fan who hadn't read them because, of course, she didn't realize they existed.
Anyway, I'm very pleased you liked this one!
