From a fitting in at school angle, it kind of sucks to have a bio-parent who is an erotes. What's worse is to have as a youngster decided it would be fun to be known as Kid Cupid, especially now that you're 16 and think very deep thoughts.

Actually, I suspect what would be even worse if one is not a full blown sociopath is the incessant requests from love-lorn idiots unfamiliar with the idea of consent for the character to use the emotion control to make the targets of their affection fall for them.

(should they be emo or goth?)

The cupid's bow they are saddled with can do two effects: grievous bodily harm or an egregious violation of personal autonomy. It's magic so I expect with time they can learn to do other stuff.

(Huh. If they can only do one emotion, the level goes up two. I like the image of them whispering an emotion to the arrow before firing it)

Is his name Pit?

(Yes, I know, technically he was Kid Icarus, but seriously.)

Kid Icarus was an early Nintendo game--little guy with wings who shot Greek-mythological things with bow and arrows. Technically the little guy was named Pit, and because he had wings he was a "kid Icarus," but of course most of the time he was just called "Kid Icarus" (see also, a lot of people thinking "Metroid" was the hero of that game, instead of the major threat).

Just seemed like an appropriate ref.

So in the small town setting that I am in no way not ever thinking of, his parents moved there because the mutation rate guaranteed that he wouldn't stand out, and that he could have something like a normal life.

She's a psychologist; he's a chiropractor. As heroes, they were known as Madame Lillith and Perseus. (There might be a winged horse out in the (fully-decked-out) barn, but he's just as often there--being an ensorcelled human who looks like a horse is a quick trip to animal activism.)

According to the rule book, the target is affected until you choose to release them or until they have to do something opposed to their aspects. So making a good cop break the law ar a scientist falsify data probably counts, because for NPCs we can assume that job or lifestyle descriptions are usually equivalent to aspects.

So the target stays loving you right up until you ask them to do something that is expressly against their personal belief system, whereupon you have to try the emotion control again and they probably get +2 to resist from their aspect.

Mind control is essentially the same, but you can't re-attempt a failed emotion control in the same scene while you can re-attempt a failed mind control in the same scene.

Goth sounds a lot more fun to play with.

Hm. Good opening for a story, I think.

Does anyone know if the effects of emotion control in ICONS ever wear off?

I notice that the character description includes wings, but no mention of flight. Is that assumed in wings, or is the character just screwed over on that?

Having wings gives the character flight at the same level they have the wings.

Okay. This is logical. (Note: I do not have a copy of the ICONS book, else I'd have looked this up.) Also, I would hope that emotion control effects wear off eventually. If not...maybe such characters can make money in psychiatric wards?

I can only imagine that this character should be the very last person in town hired to play at school dances...and that this should have to be learned the hard way.

This was pointed out to me:

Emotion Control
You can exert a kind of Mind Control (see Mind Control, following),

and under Mind Control

If successful, the target is under your control until you choose to release them or you order the target to do something opposed one or more of their aspects [...] at which point you must roll a new Mind Control test to maintain your control.

So it's not as horrible a power as it could be.

I can only imagine that this character should be the very last person in town hired to play at school dances...and that this should have to be learned the hard way.

Standard band is lead singer, guitar, bass guitar and drums? So this guy is guitar/lyrics and they have a banshee as lead singer? Who's bass guitar and drums?
