Were you trying to get < & > around it? And used the actual characters? If so, the strings got treated as HTML and disappeared. If you could edit the comment, you'd probably find them still there. For < you use "& l t ;" (without the spaces), and for > you use "& g t ;" (ditto).

/eta: is this the same William Sanders who was getting unreasonably outraged over the actions of some of the contributors of Helix SF when they decided they no longer wished to contribute? Or something?

Back during the first wave of hilarity re: Helix, Sanders made it clear that he believes that LJ account holders personally endorse all comments made in response to a post. Perhaps that is why he reads a grudge into your utterly neutral link in the previous post.

I thought Helix was pretty much by invitation only?

Google's cache of Helix's submissions policy reads:

Helix does not take unsolicited submissions at this time and has no plans to do so.

Active and Associate members of SFWA are welcome to submit queries. Please give story length, submission history if any, and something to give us some idea what it's about.

Writers who are not SFWA members, but who have equivalent professional publication records, may also submit queries. If you are not sure what "professional publication" means in this context, check http://www.sfwa.org/org/qualify.htm. Please list your publishing credits in your initial query message.

Note that word: "query." Please do not send any sort of submissions without querying first. Emails bearing attachments of any sort will be deleted unopened unless previous arrangements have been made. Paper manuscripts will be discarded unopened, except that we may look inside for return postage and appropriate it for our own use.

So unless one was in the set of people likely to invited or thought one might be, there's no opportunity cost involved for writers who behave in ways that irritate the Helix editorial staff.

Sanders seems positively livid that you knew how to find the Helix page via Google cache -- and his irritation about that makes me wonder if he wasn't planning a little historical revision.

But what do I know, I'm part of that "low class" group of bloggers, etc. etc.
