Every century, Earth and the parallel (pocket?) universe the utopia sometimes known as Mag Mel come into phase. Dispatched to determine what, if any, progress Earth has made in the last century, a lone Mag Mel emissary became entangled in (crisis to be determined later), lingered too long and was stranded. Determined to make the best of the situation, the visitor adopted identities: Doctor Sam Serif [1], and the costumed identity of Argus.

The intention here is to the anti-Brainwave (of Stargirl): Dr Serif, who looks a bit like a youthful David Hyde Pierce, is a charming, calm optimist who wishes only the best for other people.


1: As is true of so many parallel universes, Mag Mel’s language sounds like angle bracketed italicized English, it lacks certain fine distinctions regarding fonts.

The other characters are, I think, a brick, a time-controlling speedster, and someone with control over the structure of energy and matter.

So if they all had a meet-cute-fight to start the campaign:

Doubletime could leave or win, as long as they went first.

Fourforce could disintegrate everyone else, or hide behind a diamond-hard wall of air.

Captain Crunch is hosed unless they arrive with an overwhelming first strike, like launching a gravel-filled dump truck from beyond supersensory range.

Argos can... fly away with sufficient warning?

Argos can mind-blast the others into next week from far far away. Mind-blast is visual range.

That said, my experience with mentalists is that they have two operating modes: overwhelming and useless.

For example, in session zero the antagonists don't have minds that Argus can sense, so brain-frying was not an option. Instead, he used his words, pointing out to the entities that the white capes consisted of a guy who could carry them off to Antarctica, a guy who could beat them with a dump truck and a guy who could turn them into steam, so why not accept the loss and wait for another opportunity? Which proved convincing.
