The glories of third level!

And what does my unassuming Goliath fighter get at third?
Campaign specific stuff:
We each have a patron god to grant us boons at each new level. At level two, I took "never at disadvantage for stealth rolls". For level three, I took a Wisdom save, which he otherwise does not get.
For reasons that are unclear, Orilo while working towards his preferred martial archetype (Monster Hunter) has acquired an extremely disquieting quirk where when he kills a monster, a tattoo of that monster appears on his body. This can become a shadow creature that will do his bidding. Goliaths have skin markings they don't alter for religious reasons, which adds another level of "uh oh" to the whole deal.
Normal 5e stuff:
More hit points, always good (although he's falling behind the barbarian at a good pace, because the barbarian gets d12s and has a higher con).
The martial archetype I selected is Monster Hunter, which is pretty sweet:
Proficiency with Arcana and Nature, which gives him the second best rolls in the party (albeit +2 to the best's +5)
The Abyssal language.
Combat Superiority. Orilo has 4d8s, each of which can be expended on one of the following moves:
• Precision Attack. Add 1d8 to the attack roll before or after making the attack roll.
• Sharpened Attack. add 1d8 to the damage roll, before or after rolling damage.
• Sharpened Senses. Add 1d8 to a Wisdom (Perception) check to detect hidden creatures or objects, or a Wisdom (Insight) check to determine if someone is lying to you.
• Superior Willpower. Add 1d8 to an Intelligence, a Wisdom, or a Charisma saving throw.
The dice recharge after a short rest.
Hunter's Mysticism
Cast Detect Magic as a ritual.
Cast Protection from Evil and Good, recharges on a long rest.

Date: 2020-07-17 03:09 pm (UTC)The party doesn't have a rogue but Orilo and our Artificer can fake some rogue stuff (sneaking and lock picking), while the monk can handle some of the rest.

Date: 2020-07-18 01:51 pm (UTC)The protection means undead and some other types have disadvantage on attack rolls against Grigor.
Reckless means he attacks with advantage but so do his foes, _but_ the attack with disadvantage from the protecion cancels that so the creatures attack Grigor normally while he has advantage on them.
Frenzy allows him to make a single melee weapon Attack as a Bonus Action on each turn.
Re: the way the math works
Date: 2020-07-21 06:15 pm (UTC)Radiant is good in that no(?) undead has resistance to it; a couple (shadows and similar) are vulnerable to it.
If I were to maximize Avi's output and be able to borrow from UA, Astral Arms would be pretty effective as well. Dump everything into Wisdom and rock it hard.
