All kinds of exciting developments! We've been in Waterdeep less than two weeks and _two_ groups are letting us work for exposure!

Somehow, we're calling ourselves Professor Marvolo and the Intrepid Five. Prof M is our glorious leader. He's also totally made up. I didn't quite understand why we need an imaginary leader but it makes sense to Nothing.

This week was taken up refurbishing the inn, and learning about our new neighborhood. Money is easy to come by in Waterdeep so what I didn't spend on my share of the inn, I invested in better armour and weapons. Sure, one day I will be the foremost entertainer in Waterdeep but until them, I have to take care of my friends, all of whom are tiny and bleed easily.

Any time I hang around the inn, the others find stuff for me to move so I've been spending time at the armourers. They don't seem to mind as long as I pitch in from time to time and I've been picking up useful tinker skills I will be able to use backstage.

Hama shared an interesting tidbit about the inn: one of the previous owners ran an orphanage/abattoir, right up to the point the neighbours discovered the old lady was eating the kids. This may explain why the place is haunted.

So far the ghost (or whatever it is) has stuck to tipping buckets, leaving footprints, and scrawling "closing time" on the windows. It could have been some joker with mage hand or the like but the Zarakiel is sure it's a ghost. Or at least undead. A bit of cleric-stuff says whatever it is, is in the tower.

While we were trying to work out what to do about our tenant, Silver got a sending summoning us all to a meeting. Turns out it was the leader of the Gray Hands, who wanted to recruit us to help defend the city! It does not pay anything but it's a good sign that important groups want to recruit us so soon after we got to Waterdeep.

The errand they needed us for was to talk to Hlam the monk, who lives in a cave at top of a nearby mountain. More on him later. So mean!

Hama has a ... friend? Patron? named Murt. Who gave us all tickets to the opera so lets go with friend. I've never been to the opera before! The clothes were dear (and I made sure not to bleed on them).

Light Singer Theatre is huge! You could fit all of Secombre into it! The play was The Fall of Tiamat! Sung in giant! It was amazing!!!!!! There's so much possible I never thought of!!!!!!!

Hama's friend Murt also knows Renair and Floon, who must have said nice things about us because Murt recruited us for the Harpers. I think they are like the Gray Hands but more musical? We all got nice little pins to wear. Murt was worried about the gangs, even though one group was mostly dead when we found them and the other was mostly dead after we found them. Murt wants to know more about the Zents (dead when we found them.) and learning more about the Zents involves chatting to Maxine the talking horse. Talking horses are apparently a thing here.

I was focused on the play so I missed some stuff. I misheard "horse" and wondered why it was so remarkable they talk.

Nothing was obsessed about getting all the information they could. Also on getting the job done immediately, even though the play wasn't over. Nobody moves me if I don't want to be moved.

Maxine was out on the High Road doing horse stuff, hauling drays back and forth. Finding her was easy. She didn't have a lot of information but what she did have was useful: the half-orc woman we met our first day at the Yawning Portal is a Zent. Maxine overhear Maxine and her bodyguard talking about spies from the other gang (whose name I forget, except it sounds too much like Zent.).

The next day we swung by the Yawning Portal to find a guide to take us to find Hlam. The barkeep at the Yawning Portal is a bit taken aback at the idea of going up the mountain for no good reason. Apparently mountain climbing isn't a thing people do for fun around here. Still, we did find a guy who knew the mountain.

As it happened, the half orc woman was there too. Nice woman! We had an interesting conversation.

H'lam had a cryptic message for the Gray Hands: "Evil's twin hides its face for now but that will change by winters end." Which could mean anything. He thinks he's so smart but when he tried to guess what each of us do, he got me totally wrong: thought I was a fighter because of the armour and the swords, knives, cross-bow, cestus, throwing axes, and stuff. Never guessed I was an entertainer too. Plus he didn't take being wrong very well: muttered something about me being better off focusing on the fighting even after he heard me sing.

He warned us to be wary as Gray Hands but what does _he_ know? Anyway, we pass on his message.

We need to deal with the undead upstairs. We've hired a cleric and I've had my sword silvered. Should be a doddle.

One weird thing: we didn't find any treasure going up the mountain. I'm basically broke until the next high paying job comes along. But with us doing favours for the Harpers and the Gray Hands, I bet the paying gigs will start pouring in.

That people need to specify "Maxine the talking horse" implies that there are so many talking horses that they need to name Maxine. (Or there's more than one Maxine in town, but never mind.) How does one distinguish between talking horses and non-talking horses? Presumably the easiest way is just to ask the horse...

There are other talking creatures around; you, me... Maybe Maxine doesn't want to be addressed as "Talking horse", it's unfeminine. "I have a mane."

This is the sort of gaming that deserves fan art.
