Of course, skiffy authors and their widespread inability or unwillingness to imagine democratic futures are part of this, by promoting the idea there are no alternatives to autocracy.
(I've just watched the whole of Borgen and they had no trouble finding drama in democratic government, so it's not that)

He is stoking fear of Muslims; threatening retaliation against the media; and promising to embrace strongmen like Vladimir Putin and bring back and enhance the use of torture against suspected terrorists.
Does not look like an endorsement of "global force for liberal values".
