"Malice in Saffron" nearly made me throw up when I read it. I couldn't reread it for years, and then only once, when I braced myself for a Grand Reread of the Paradys rainbow.

I did smirk at the line about wearing red once a month.

An 'opium dream in prose' is a perfect description of Stained with Crimson especially. It was the second Tanith Lee story I ever read (the first was 'Book of the Beat'(I'd lost my glasses at the the time and the type of Book of the Beast was in a bigger font XD) and it was the story that turned me into a Lee fanatic, lush and dreamlike and beautiful.

I kept waiting for the other 2 stories to return to the frame of the first somehow and was very disappointed when they didn't.
