I wonder who Art was, and in what way he was deemed to be sitting high in Society, and whether the writer intended the comment to be as snarky as it seems now.

Good q -- I know the KPL has a number of these cards from the same sender. I've asked their local historian for any info she has. If anything turns up, I'll post here, or let JDN know.
