Damn. That's, yeah, something there. Definitely. I think I'd have to get a ballbat and an icepick to properly express my feelings toward this exercise in douchery.

"Slow Clap"

Hopefully antibiotic-resistant.

Jesus.

Wait, none of the spaces he parked across are disabled spaces. This is merely an amateur.

There are small devices that can remove the valve core from tires, rendering them unable to hold air.

It would, of course, be highly unethical and probably illegal to pull the cores from all four of those tires and throw them away somewhere.

Of course.

It would be unethical and also nasty to leave the valve cores ductaped to the windshield.

bad parking! no biscuit

Actually, I have parked a van like this. The van was old and decrepit, and the transmission wouldn't shift into reverse reliably. The lot had no spaces that you could pull through but plenty of open rows away from the building.

The vehicle was on its last legs. Flattening the tires could have transformed it from "more expensive than I can fix right now" into "too much trouble to fix at all, thanks."

(ETA: Not my vehicle, so not my decision)

Is that an extended length van? I am wondering if it fits in the normal length slots. Other than that the only mitigating (not necessarily excusing) circumstance I can think of is that the person is making deliveries and will be out of there in a couple of minutes.

Plain white van with no markings on the side make me think it is a rental. Not an excuse. Just an observation.

If the van was too long, then parking within the lines but pulling forward to not block traffic driving behind him would be optimal. Would only take up two spaces, or one if someone parked across from him with a compact car and didn't need the entire length of a space.

Good point. I can't see enough of the lot in the photo to see if that was an option.

IMO the greatest likelihood is that the driver was just a selfish jerk but I was trying to be charitable.

I think you're right to be charitable. A magical butterfly just landed on my shoulder and provided some context for the photo:

The parking lot is for a mom & pop store. The van belongs to the owners of the store (and its lot). The photo was taken on Sunday, when the store was closed all day. The three cars in the lot are parked there illegally - the owners are overnight guests at the nearby apartment who are skirting the street parking requirements.

This thread makes the butterfly want to cry.

It's the Stanley Park Mall and that building is the LCBO.

Now I have to think of a reason to be charitable toward that butterfly!

Charitable is good. I just have a compulsion to use my vast (they're not vast) spacial relations skills when I see a picture like this.

Wow, that's a suspicious vehicle, all right. Perhaps the local bomb squad should be notified to that it can be safely contained and detonated.

It looks to me as though there are several or many unoccupied spaces near this van, and under such conditions I have no problem with one vehicle taking up two or even three spaces, especially if it's in the remote end of the lot. As long as not _too_ many people do it, of course (and this looks like a brand-new vehicle, probably with an owner or driver terrified of that first dent or scratch).

Mind you, I _do_ have some Problem with parking spaces so narrow that I can't get my small Toyota sedan in between two Vans with enough space to open the door and get out... in a Parking Structure that seems not to have any other vacant spaces.
