Cry havoc and loose the ghost-rats of war.
Despite Otho legging it as fast as he can, the ghost-rats aren't limited by concerns like physics and they latch onto him like it was the desert and he was a bottle of water. While his friend and confidante the Ring of Protection protects him from some of the damage, the specters still manage to hurt him.
This was one of the odd battles where Otho was the one who got hurt worst, thanks to this thing we call "on-going damage". If you have to run into swarms of undead, it helps to have a cleric and a paladin in the party, not to mention a soldier with a magic spear that eats ghosts. Otherwise this was a very short fight, only a round or two. Otho helped by not dying.
Patience is worried since the spectral rats were weird and unholy even for undead rats.
Otho isn't pleased when the cleric mutters things like "necrotic" and "battle field amputation while looking at his wounded leg. In the end, a healing ritual saved the leg and Otho gets yet another scar to remind him to be sneakier.
Otho insists on trying to make a ladder, not wanting to get caught on the wrong side of ledges. This project is doomed to failure but it takes a while to convince him.
There is a lot of searching for little return but eventually party finds a locked room which after Reynaldo smashes the lock turns out to contain two more sarcophagi. They're oddly loud for containers holding dead bodies so rather than find out what is making the scratching sounds in uncontrolled conditions, Renaldo casts hold portal on one of the sarcophagi, and then Otho and Iatro toss lid of the other sarcophagi. This week's prize is an angry wight.
While Otho retreats to bow range, the others reduce the wight to dust. Unlike previous foes, this one has a bit of swag: silver pieces, two silver rings, a statuette of nude lady, and three glass vials with mysterious liquid.
Rinse and repeat for the other wight. This one lasts longer and manages to tag Titus but the outcome isn't really in doubt and it soon joins its friend.
Whatever was up with rats seems to have been a one off as Titus' wound isn't necrotic.
There's more treasure including gems, more vials and a dagger. Everyone but Otho jumps to the conclusion that the vials the party found nestled next to the undead horrors must beealing healing potions. Otho is skeptical and decides to let someone else test this hypothesis.
After deciding not to wake the community of sleeping giant bats, the group finds a large cave in the middle of which is a shadowy figure, holding a dark lantern. After the group cautiously approaches in standard combat formation. It turns out to be a statue of a soldier wearing archaic gear. A suspiciously realistic looking one, with a surprised look on its face.
After enough time to remember how tough the last medusa was, and to appreciate how exposed the party is, some unfortunate carrion crawlers show up to see if the group is food.
This time my notes are more detailed and I can say the fight lasted two and little bit rounds before all four crawlers were dead. This time Otho got to contribute with a flurry of arrows, a nice contrast to the first fight.
Search the cavern some more, lots of dead end crevices. On side opposite to tunnel, there are a lot more giant bat droppings and the sound of leathery wings. The party keeps going. The tunnel leads to a small cavern, and more stairs. Feels dangerous, very dangerous, champion level.
After a lot more searching, the group finds a set of tunnels where someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make it make to move quickly down the tunnels, although there is room to squeeze by.
After the party forces its way down one tunnel, they hear an ominious thumping sound. The source proves to be an 8'6" ogre. Patience volunteers to negotiate with it. Otho boldly steps back, eying the shadows....

Curious about "drpings much more".
