A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Wednesday in a breakthrough that came less than 48 hours after the deadly attack, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said Wednesday. Boston police say that despite earlier reports to the contrary, there has been no arrest made in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings.

Note that being a suspect and even being arrested does not make someone guilty.

Not only that, but even being convicted doesn't make someone guilty.

Yes, but convicts should not disrespect the justice system by pointing this out. What about the feelings of all the people who worked so hard to put the wrong person in prison?

Heck, being locked up in a concentration camp for a decade won't always do the trick.

That link says no arrest has been made.

I wasn't sure if you were subtly pointing out the conflicting reports. You are well known for your subtlety, after all.

No, honest: it said what I had when I quoted it and then changed some time in the next minute.

I believe you! That's why I pointed it out, and then explained my uncertainty.

The "being a suspect" line is still valid, anyway.

Oh, I see you fixed that.

Yeah, had two strikes instead of what I meant to have.

Just to be contrarian, however, I'll point out that someone can be in custody, and still not have been arrested.

What the opening paragraphs originally said:

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Wednesday in a breakthrough that came less than 48 hours after the deadly attack, a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation said Wednesday.

The official spoke shortly after several media outlets reported that a suspect had been identified from surveillance video taken at a Lord & Taylor store between the sites of the two bomb blasts, which killed three people and wounded more than 170.

The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The suspect was expected at a Boston courthouse, the official said.

A news briefing was scheduled later Wednesday.

Whole article is 16 paragraphs, most of it just being a detailed rehash of what the boston attack entailed and the stuff with the gas cannisters.

What it now opens with is:

Boston police say that despite media reports to the contrary, there has been no arrest made in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings.

Several major U.S. news outlets, including CNN and The Associated Press, citing anonymous officials, had said a suspect was taken into custody and was expected to appear in Federal Court.

5 paragraphs total.

I'm trying to sort all this out right now, but I think CNN falsely claimed an arrest had been made, others repeated it, and the FBI corrected everyone. The CBC site updated more quickly than a lot of US sites did. Some still have the wrong info up even now at 2:35 PM Central.

There's a press conference at 4 PM Central. I think.

None of them thinking through the slight problem that "if the FBI were handed the case sometime yesterday, why is a BPD insider knowing anything?"
