They've decided that they can't get the blue collar vote back from the conservatives without going a long way to the right.

This is a continuation of a trend that has been going on for ages because "blue collar" hasn't got a new narrative since women officially entered the workforce in large numbers and the NDP party machinery (and some helpful money) tore its guts out with misogyny.
