Thanks for posting. Sooj is always awesome. And since I don't live in Seattle either, I don't see enough of her.

Perhaps it's a sign of my deficient character, but I don't jones for D&D specifically, just Roleplaying Of Any Of The Flavours I Like.

Ditto.
May I also add that not a single gamer in any of the groups that I have been a member of looks like that at all. Some looked like that before gaming, a couple look like that now that they have spent years in the military, overcoming a twinkie-potato chip-mountain dew diet.

At least half of all gamers I knew looked like that. Myself included. Before, during, and after my stint in military :)

Now that I think of it, while some of the women in my gaming groups were seriously overweight, NONE of the men were. The only guy gamer I knew who could be called "fat" was also tremendously strong.

What exactly was the request?

To bump the video up out comments into an entry.

How unusual that you have only gamed with fat people. I know people of all shapes and sizes who game.

[livejournal.com profile] bastets_place didn't say fat, did they? One of my friends is on the "twinkie-potato chip-mountain dew diet" and he's thin as a rail, and he also most assuredly doesn't look like anyone in the video.

This is true (and I am fat, and eat very lightly, so that should have occurred to me)!

None of my gaming friends look exactly like the people in that video, either, but that's because my white friends who are gamers are all red-haired or blond(e).

Though I do like the song, it's not my usual thing. More like the stuff my dad forced us to listen to. I'm still undecided on whether I'll buy an album. Hmmm.

I'd recommend listening to more of her music before you decide; this is a parody of someone else's song, so it's a little different from S.J.'s usual style.

What [livejournal.com profile] rosefox said.

Sooj is wonderful - and she's a lovely and amazing person, to boot.

I sometimes think of AD&D as the BASIC of roleplaying. Despite its quirks and limitations, many of us came into the field through it; and even though most of us went on to things more consistent, more flexible, and more powerful, we still retain a nostalgic fondness for what we started with.

Also like BASIC on that we liked to goof around with the system and make it do things it wasn't designed for. Bearing in mind that Runequest, Champions, and a bunch of other games started off as D&D variants. (he says, as someone who used to add in Arduin Grimore sillyness)

Our group has never moved past 2nd edition in AD&D, although we do play other systems (Marvel Superheroes, Champions, etc.) None of this new-fangled d20 stuff for us...

Me neither,

but "Keep on the Borderlands" was always fun.

And that's what she's holding, from the looks of it. I haven't run the video yet. My system of getting to the internet makes watching video useless, during the day.

Combining two otherwise completely unrelated things that I both love:

'Show of Hands' and roleplaying may have just broken the internet for me. Will I ever be able to top this?

I quite liked the tailend action sequences - especially after the song/video, which used snippets from them.

A lot of the stuff that looks like scenes from a low budget DnD movie is actually scenes from a low budget DnD movie - The Gamers: Dorkness Rising - which is on Netflix streaming in the US.

I liked it, but not for the quality of the acting.

Incidentally S. J. Tucker is going to be at Renovation as part of Tricky Pixie. Just in case you needed another reason to come besides your Hugo nom. :)

For D&D-related music, I'll put in a plug for 'Tripod Vs The Dragon':

I would also like to note that I am glad someone finally did the obvious joke about playing the axe. I am sure this isn't new, but I've never personally seen it.

That was music of a higher quality than " Roll a D6", recently linked at tor.com, but I found it less fun.
