Starting in the March issue of RT BOOK REVIEWS, readers will start to notice reviews of Japanese science fiction and fantasy novels in the magazine. They're all from Haikasoru, a relatively new publishing imprint which specializes in these translated books.

Speaking of a nominee for the Hugo award for Fan Writer, that got me acknowledged as the, and I quote, "King of the Nerds" at Best Buy yesterday.

What does that make those people who have actually won, let alone the ones with enough rockets to build their own galactic empire?

Intergalactic Emperors/Empresses of the Nerds.

Lotsa title inflation in Nerdsylvania.

I recall Dave Langford[0] explaining one time that he had run out of space on the mantelpiece and had taken to planting his spare Hugos either side of the garden path like so many garden gnomes.

As for the Haikasoru thing, how is the campaign to get Nick Mamatas nominated for Best Long-Form Editor Hugo coming along?

[0] He is unique in that he is the only person to have won a non-fiction Hugo and a fiction Hugo in the same year, in 2005; Terry Carr previously achieved this double (Best Editor and Best Short Story) but not in the same year.

Yeah, how did it come up? Did someone recognize your face, or did they see your name on a credit card? Because if people are recognizing Hugo nominees for best fan writer on the street, then SF must be a lot more popular than I think it is...

The sales person helping my exgf consider laptops said (for reasons I don't recall but it was on topic) that he was quite a nerd in high school and then added that he still was one at which point a certain exgf pointed at me and declared me king of the nerds. Once the sales person heard why, he agreed. There may have been bowing involved.
