In a post-scarcity world identity issues distract a genius from his life's work but he manages to remain consumed by his efforts.

It seems to me like large portions of this world's infrastructure are so badly designed and elements of its rules are so dysfunctional that it seems almost willful.

(Why,yes, I do think many modern inefficiencies are intentional)

So, about "shows character, is funny, or advances the plot"

And other brevity-based writing guides: they mean any detail that gets in is in some way significant and accordingly you can tell what it's for by what it isn't for.

(This probably matters more for who dun its)

Got to watch a pair of very angry cats
