How much diversity is included in the BFYA lists?

Maybe the fictional characters of colour are just too busy to appear in books?

I wonder what the Canadian version of this is and how it stacks up.

Once one's attention is drawn to descriptions of the form "she was not a beauty, except in the sense of being exceptionally physically attractive in ways I will now list for you" one cannot avoid noticing them.

My Father's Singularity (Brenda Cooper)

Read by Kate Baker.

In a world being transformed by technology, a rural father predicts great changes for his offspring. He is right and also wrong.

From the degree of isolation the farm is said to have in the first few paragraphs, I was expecting this to be set post-atomigeddon.
Nope, it's just an empty part of the US.

Beach Blanket Spaceship(Sandra McDonald)

An astronaut takes a holiday in a simulation of a 1950s beach film. It doesn't go exactly according to plan.

So, I was talking about ideas SF could lose now? I should have mentioned things like "Voyager 20", where some old probe program name is used with an implausibly large number tacked on. The final Voyager launch was almost 40 years ago. I am pretty sure the US isn't going to suddenly say "Hey, let's launch at least 18 more space probes named after ones from the Carter Administration."

(Not that another 18 Voyager class probes with modern space rated tech would be a bad idea)

Something I posted elsewhere:

POD: 1970s: A healthy Leigh Brackett pitches an interesting twist to George Lucas.

1980: Audiences are somewhat taken aback when, during the confrontation scene between Vader and Luke, Vader takes Luke's head off like an offending dandelion flower. Now the fate of the Rebel Alliance, rescuing Han and all that jazz rests on the shoulders of the last Jedi, Leia.
