Something under three million years ago

Sol passed through the galactic plane from south to north. We're about 67 LY north right now and the northward part of the Sun's vector is about 7 km/s. The Sun may get at far as 250 LY north before heading south again.

Alpha Centauri, in constrast, seems headed towards 800 LY north. I wonder if that sort of thing matters for habitability?

Well, there's three hours of my life I won't see again. What I learned from Alexander is that ancient Macedonians sounded Irish and ancient Greeks sound like spy movie Russians. I understand and acknowledge accurate accents would also be completely incomprehensible to me, what with the Classic world being weak on English.
