The entire "dealing with grief by murdering more people than Hitler, Stalin and Mao combined" aspect, I mean. I can't figure out how I missed that as a teen.

I am part way into Andre Norton's _Dark Piper_ (which is being reissued in an omnibus with _Dread Companion_) and it seems to be what a reply to SV might be like, if it were written from the point of view of the people on the undefended planets the Space Viking attack so freely.

I brought the backup space heater down from upstairs (Probably just as well, since it wasn't really Cleo-safe [1]). There's a button on the bottom I never thought about but it turns out it's a safety feature: tilt the space heater back, by bumping it, say, and it shuts off. Kind of obvious, now that I used it. And I bet it works if you knock it face down, too.

Yep (I just tilted it).

I am still never leaving it unattended.

Makes me think the mysterious black knob at the lower right hand side might do soomething, too.

1: Cleo likes to put his head as close as possible to sources of heat, and this
is a radiant heater with no fan. The mesh gets quite warm.
