Telling the same joke over and over, and expecting it to be funny

Ever hear Niven make that joke about how "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results -- like Communism!"? He's still using that joke; he used it on a panel at last year's Worldcon. Nobody laughed, or even seemed to really notice.

Niven is 70. This is not an uncommon failing of people that age. Putting up with a certain degree of it is inherent in the respect normally extended to one's elders.

Which isn't to say it's not annoying.

It'd be less annoying if it weren't an astonishingly stupid thing to be saying at all.
