What part of "GRRM is far too important to fill out the forms every other panelist filled out," do people not understand? Do people not understand the burden being better than everyone else imposes on GRRM?
But it "wasn't for lack of trying"! He wrote to the organisers asking for a phone number so he could chat about it, and they sent him a link to the application form! He "attempted to get in touch" with them twice more!
What else could he possibly have done? Except fill out the form they sent him.
Alas, he has been "frozen out" because they wouldn't fill in the form for him, I guess.
Wow, Glasgow WorldCon had an egalitarian process for proposing and volunteering for panels and GRRM couldn't even bother to get one of his assistants to do it for him.
George is an artist; he doesn't owe any writing to anyone! He's making progress on the forms, though. They should be done by the end of the year. This time he promises. PROMISES.
I wondered if this famous form was online, so I just wandered over to Glasgow2024's website to see if I could find it. The page does not appear to be immediately obvious, and besides, the deadline for filing as a participant was 15 April. But I do note that the page for programme participation ( https://glasgow2024.org/about/policies/programme-participant-selection/ ) has the following:
Whilst in the first instance we are looking for attendees who will contribute in valuable ways to our convention, it is also important that we do our best to place people on our programme who are aligned with the values and principles set out in the convention Code of Conduct and our diversity policies, including specifically our Anti-TRASH statement.
We will additionally prioritise the participation of underrepresented voices from within the wider speculative fiction community.
I find myself wondering if GRRM wanted to have a conversation about what might push the boundaries of acceptable behavior before committing to not doing that by signing the form.

But perhaps I'm being uncharitable.
