We may do a fill-in involving underwater stuff. As it happened, the character I rolled up for run fits perfectly:

Remy van der Zee: Marlin

While scuba-diving off New Zealand, Remy noticed a curious amulet. Feeling a curious affinity for what is clearly the product of a long-dead (and given geological history, pre-human) civilization, Remy picked it up, only for the glowing amulet to affix itself permanently to Remy's forehead before integrating itself with Remy's central nervous system. One painful transformation later and Remy was a streamlined, hairless aquatic-American, as able to survive at the bottom of the ocean as on land.

Marlin is Costa del Margo's foremost hero specializing in aquatic, wetland, and riverine environments [1]. Socially, this is on par with being the world's deadliest golfer but Marlin isn't in it for fame or glory. People may laugh but who do they call when they drop a watch overboard?

Remy cannot in fact speak with aquatic animals and would like people to stop asking if they can.

Sounds like a more competent version of my first Champions character - Captain Croak, Crimefighter and Frog - whose power was turning into a human-sized frog but couldn't actually swim, leap more than a couple of feet, had no sonic croak atttack, etc. etc. After accidentally helping to save London from terrorists he went into a much more lucrative career as a "monster" on Doctor Who and other low-budget TV shows. His story ended up as the first fiction I sold for money, Frog Day Afternoon, linked from this page:

He'd better watch out for the obvious nemesis, Toad in the Hole; I'm given to understand he's viewed as Britain's least impressive supervillain in the DC universe.

How fast is "Super Speed 6 (limit: aquatic)"? Fast enough that he could make money transporting high-value cargo?

The he could certainly make a little extra scratch carrying small legal cargoes across the ocean... or a lot of extra scratch with illegal ones.

Diet? Is it better not to ask?

Is "Sentinel of the Seven Seas" a profession with many members, like being a Green Lantern is nowadays?
