A sequel seems unimaginable.

What a strange and powerful book.

The psychological horror is incredibly effective (and affective), the everyday young adult stuff cringingly powerful.

And how brilliant, to take such a common knot of magical thinking of young adults --- that somehow _my_ failure at schoolwork, or work, or something, will cause harm to my family; that my faithless transgression or forbidden dalliance is why they are sick, harmed --- and make it real, literal, central to plot and themes. Fear, love as metaphor and as actual.

Brilliant novel. And translation. I will be ruminating on it for a while.

According to the authors:

http://web.archive.org/web/20150923071835/http://www.dyachenko-writers.com/novels/novels-of-metamorphosis-cycle/

“Metamorphosis” is a associative cycle of novels about people found their life and understanding of the World had to be changed. Novels are not connected by characters or plot.

(bolding mine)

So the other books are not sequels per se. Similar to KSR's Orange County Cycle/California Triptych, since that just came up on the review of "The Wild Shore" (https://james-davis-nicoll.dreamwidth.org/12991122.html)
