Which mainstream science fiction or fantasy work would you say was the most racist mainstream science fiction or fantasy work?

(Mainstream = published by a legit publisher, not some vanity house)

IIRC, and it's been a while, in Armageddeon 2419 A.D, the "Han" of the novel weren't real-world Chinese; they were the result of actual aliens conquering China and interbreeding with the locals. Also, it was Buck Rogers, not Flash Gordon. Flash Gordon was from a comic strip series.

Whups, yes, correct. Buck, then Flash (and rather a lot of others) once Buck was popular.

My recollection is that the novel has the real-world Chinese as the mutant descendants of the aliens.

It's amusing that the Buck Rogers _comic_ was less racist: the Chinese in China are quite ignorant of the atrocities being committed in their name by the almost forgotten Chinese in the Americas, and are horrified when they find out.

I was thinking that he might not have written the comics, but apparently he did.

Although only until 1939, so if horrified Chinese in China were after the first ten years it wouldn't have been Nowlan.

After 1941 the Chinese were on Our Side. The Yellow Peril had moved a bit further to the east.
