Somebody's pretty exasperated today, I see.

You actually had me going the whole way because I don't always read the tags before following links. I was thinking "who commissioned this review?"

Yeah, I missed the "not actually a review" until after I posted that comment.

Parts of it happened! Toronto has a very interesting history and I would make more fun of them for it if at the same time Kitchener wasn't having stuff like Nazi rallies and military bulling of the local civilians.

That's the essential piece of a good hoax, isn't it? A couple touches of honest remarkable truth imbue the whole thing with credibility.

James' ironic tone aside, the description of the book was quite believable for quite a long time. Sort of Sax Rohmer-y.

Yes, if I had not just an hour before read about Lester W Sharp's woofen-poof hoax, I'd have been taken ... well, up to the mention of King's twelve murders. Twelve was a touch too far. But as it was I was ready and skeptical a paragraph or two sooner.

I'd like to nominate Jasper King's image for the new World Fantasy Award.

Now, now. I can grasp the analogy with HPL's habit of eating a roasted black baby every Sunday, but that was _quite_ unrelated to his work.

Well, except for that earlier draft _The Coloreds Out of Space_.

Heh. Now that would be an amusing game - "Lovecraft: the even more racist early drafts", such as the one in which Arthur Jermyn immolates himself because he finds out he's part Italian.
