Is there an analogous term to Total Fertility Rate for a nation's ability not just to produce babies but raise and educate them up to the functional adult level?
In wildlife one speaks of net survivorship, adult recruitment, and survival in an overall sense which can be applied to cohorts, annual breeding cycle, etc. flexibly.
Looking at it strictly as an animal problem, it seems you're possibly thinking of adult recruitment---the age at which first reproduction occurs, which can be affected in all animals by many environmental factors. Breeding success refers to successful raising of an offspring to nominal adulthood or at least to an independent foraging stage (fledging, leaving the home territory, whatever the appropriate marker is), and that can also be affected by environmental factors.
