In defense of Norman Rockwell

But not only is that a reference to FDR's Four Freedom's speech, Rockwell's America also included scenes like this:

You know, I would have thought that showing a couple of white people who maintained solidarity with a black person, even unto death, would have been something to admire.

I see messages like "your race will not exempt you from this evil", or "these men were brothers in spirit", or "here are examples to be emulated", or "this cause is worth dying for, regardless of your race". Not "black people are worthless and inferior and need white people to save them" (except in the sense that everyone needs others and we are strong in groups.)
