I imagine how Cugel the Clever thinks he is now free from the interfering and oddly named wizard called Jack Vance, only to vanish into a nothingness beyond the end of time. Such things are indeed regrettable, but at least we can read the wizard's books without undue concern for our possessions.

Jack Vance has always been one of my favourite SF writers. In fact I started a reread of "Ecce and Old Earth" yesterday. It was one of his stories in a Clarke anthology, and Clarke's comments on his other works, that caused me to look for more Vance. I owe both of them a great deal.
