It's been a while since I read it, but as I recall the endgame in that sequence, the point of getting Channis to believe Rossem was the homeworld was to ALSO plant the idea that while the Mule was wasting time on Tazenda, the Second Foundation was off taking his empire apart. It was to give him a moment of shock, uncertainty, and vulnerability so that the Second Foundation's leader *could* overcome the Mule -- because the Mule was far more powerful than anyone in the Second Foundation with this power. The latter shock may also have been achieved by revealing to him where the Second Foundation REALLY was.

Sounds like this part of the radio play diverged significantly.
