Definitely looks a lot more convincing than a lot of the stuff I've seen. The fact they're shown with realistic looking instruments doesn't hurt. If you went soley by cartoons you'd think everyone played tenor guitar given how often guitars are drawn with less than six strongs.

The drumming looked more realistic to me, as the fingers didn't always move fast enough for the noise coming from the instrument, though i agree that rotoscoping seems likely.

Which is how you can tell it's not rotoscoped, because it's not perfectly in sync. Fun extra fact, the band detuned the instruments slightly and only played chords they felt a high schoolers could do.

As someone who was playing professional-level violin and viola at age 17, i think they underestimate what a high schooler might do.
