She did better than most of the other leaders in the last set of debates!

The consortium should post clear requirements for who can/should be invited to participate, and then abide by them. On one hand, May makes a case for participation, based on riding candidates, or on pop-vote. On the other hand, the party currently has no representation in the house, and it seems unlikely that will change.

If she is, why aren't cats? That's what I want to know!

(Of course, I'm not Canadian, so my opinion doesn't really count here. Which, really, makes it no different from the US.)

Some other option: THUNDERDOME!

Can't we just get beyond thunderdome?

For that you'll need another hero.

Some other option: No debates are necessary. Harper can just make them illegal.

I'm not a Green supporter, but I think they deserve a seat at the debate because of the number of candidates they run and because they get a decent percentage of the popular vote.

What infuriates me is when the media (including the CBC) keeps implying that the Greens are "progressive" or "left-wing". They're neither: they're a bunch of environmentalists allied with a bunch of Red Tories.

They got 6.8% of the popular vote, and no seats. While that does mean that "almost a million people voted for them", it also could mean that they didn't get a "decent percentage of the popular vote", depending upon what measure you use to mean "decent".

This. Which is why I will never vote Green, at least not until they develop a fiscal policy that's somewise distinguishable from voting for the CRAPs.

I think this is considerably less true than it was 10 years ago. There's a large social justice contingent in the greens that has driven away a lot of the red Tories. I'm not a Green, but that's been my perception.

Though I'd imagine even greens would be able to withhold their ability to warn against the imminent danger of overpopulation in Canada, which limits their ability to attract the population control types.

Though I'd imagine there'd be a compensating degree of a problem with crypto-nazis (who want to "keep the arctic white", but not in the way most greens would expect) infiltrating the movement.

I thought they should be denied a voice as the CPC already had Harper representing them but maybe E.M. should be allowed to answer every 4th question for the Tories.

That depends. Is the Green Party a major party?

The reason I said no is because not including her is controversial and so all the media dealies pounce on it and learn who she is and what she represents. It is the Green Party's one chance per election to make the front page[2] and remind people that they exist as a viable[1] option.

[1] - they've got a pulse; a lot can be done with a pulse

[2] - what is the digital age equivalent of "front page"?

It's still the "front page" e.g. "[story X] made the front page of BoingBoing, and that's why the statcounter jumped up".

Alternatively you could have "making the sticky posts", but that just sounds wrong somehow.

My son and I tried out the CBC's compass rose the other day. It told me I was a Liberal which is close enough. It told my son (who views himself as NDP) as a Green.

Duceppe's party will never run candidates anywhere outside of Quebec. Calling it a national party is a joke. The Greens, for all their faults, at least pretend.
