The History Within Us (Matthew Kressel)
I'm torn between "What may be the last of her species is saved thanks to some steadfast conservationists," or "A collaborator with what I hope was the worse evil imposed on the Milky Way is faced with the possibility of punishment if the aliens around her realize she's human."
Anyone looking for support for the thesis "SF is largely about death" should consider adding this to their evidence.
I was going to ask about conservation of names through time, given that this is at least 6000 years from now and the lead is named "Betsy" but as it turned out there is an in-story reason why names might be abnormally effectively conserved in this Betsy's lineage.
