A street kid gets caught up in what is to him the biggest adventure of his life, one featuring characters out of legend. To the rest of the universe it's nothing much but that is true of all human activity.

Buckell is, of course, the guy who gets hate mail for including black characters in his SF and with passages like

He'd gotten a brief glimpse of her before the running started: tall, dark eyes, dark skin, dark leather jacket and microfibre pants, careful dreadlocks pulled back into a pony tail.


I imagine he got some for this.

Elements of this reminded me of Vance, not an author I associate with Buckell.

I think of what I say as text livestreamed so the possibility of me using the verb salt in the future tense while waving a sharp object around could be open to misinterpretation never occurred to me.

To keep the number of awards from spiraling out of control, should the Hugo start using relegation, where the category with the least number of votes is dropped, to be replaced by a category that might engage the voters' interest more?

I assume someone thought of that already and there's art of it. I mean Jean Grey > Annie, Xavier > Daddy Warbucks and Wolverine > Sandy is obvious.
