Portrait of Paris

An American living in Paris in 1956 does his best to convey the delights of living in Paris in 1956.

(Usual organ-donor clause re: reflexive French-bashing)

I was in Paris just once, about a decade after this was recorded. Don't remember much about it except that if you want prompt service from a French gendarme, it doesn't hurt to be drenched in blood. Oh, and their medical services were decent.

(I don't recall the 'lungs being scoured with a brillo-pad sensation' I had all the time in London. Was Paris less polluted than London in the mid-1960s?)

(is it wrong of me that the first thing I wondered when I saw this was "how possessive does Ellison feel about that title?")

BBC Radio 4’s Dangerous Visions is a season of dramas exploring contemporary takes on future dystopias, inspired by the literary distinctiveness and imaginative world view of JG Ballard.
