Q: With the growing success of Steampunk in recent years, is Space Opera losing its appeal as a subgenre?

1: Wow, people feel comfortable talking about trends without supplying supporting data. If you wonder why I go off on bean-counting sprees, this would be why.

2: There's no common definition of space opera being used here, which means the contributors are answering different questions.

3: It's all well and good to talk about the success of NuBattlestar but it went off the air almost 3 1/2 years ago. Look at TV now: see any spaceships?




What do people think of Mike Cobley's book? I am unfamiliar with them.

breaking Split U.S. top court upholds entire Obama health care law

Not the way I would have called it: I figured on a 4:5 split with the conservative judges ruling the maximization of misery is the core American value, which even the feeble measures passed by Obama contradict (with Scalia adding a section advocating the banning of vaccination as Muslim invention in favour of beating patients with plague rats).
