An investigation by CBC News has turned up voters all over Canada who say the reason they got robocalls sending them to fictitious polling stations was that they'd revealed they would not vote Conservative.

Although the Conservative Party has denied any involvement in the calls, these new details suggest that the misleading calls relied on data gathered by, and carefully guarded by, the Conservative Party.

Violating election law part of core Tory values.

"Sequels never enhance a work. They only serve to trivialize it."

Frank Herbert

Anyone know the source of that quotation?

Does the current Republican War on Women make more sense if you assume one of their goals is to drum up support for repealing the 19th Amendment?

My son [name] is 14 and is currently devouring Scalzi's "old mans war" books.
This is an odd turn of events as to this point he has been not all that
interested in reading like this... He tends to like comics and "science
books" (of the 'catalog of cool animals' type).

I surmise from this that he's not as interested in Fantasy of which we
have lots as he might be in SF.

Sadly, Scalzi hasn't got that much in print. 8/

What should I try throwing at him next? Of prime importance I would think
is that the books have the same ease of readability as Scalzi (one reason
I hesitate to suggest Banks or McLeod as I don't think they're as easy to
read).

Bujold maybe?

I'd like to avoid handing him right-wing mil SF with dubious messages
contained... 8P

Because the Scalzi connection, I recommended H. Beam Piper (but not Space Viking).

Aside from Ender's Game and Space Viking which young adult SF novels involve the protagonist committing one or more acts of democide?

The Annual General Meeting is a chance for us to all get back together, hang out, and make decisions for the up-coming year.

The FASS Theatre Company is serious about having fun -- we're a live cartoon on stage! We've been entertaining UW with variety and musical comedy since 1962, making us UW's longest-operating amateur theatre group. While the most fun occurs in January when over 100 cast and crew rehearse and prepare the show just in time for February, you can join us in our social events all year round!

FASS stands for Faculty, Alumni, Staff and Students. We welcome anyone and everyone and each year we see new friendships created and old ones renewed. If we're not too busy laughing at ourselves in rehearsals, trading jokes at writers meetings or sharing donuts backstage, you'll probably find us going out to a movie or throwing a famous FASS Party!
