What are the great librarian/adventurer stories?

Obviously, nobody wants the excesses of an unregulated democracy. Jon Alterman has a solution:

American interests, however, call for a different outcome, one that finds a balance — however uneasy — between the military authorities and [...] new politicians. We do not want any one side to vanquish or silence the other. And with lopsided early election results, it is especially important that the outcome not drive away [...] educated liberal elite, whose economic connections and know-how will be vital for attracting investment and creating jobs.

For some reason, the original has a recurring typo I've removed. Given how well religious extremists did in Iowa, isn't it time for the US armed forces to step in, as their analogs did in Greece and Turkey, to provide much required guidance to a system careening out of control?

In answer to my question "Would you know [w]hen Pyr's editions of Adrian Tchaikovsky's The Sea Watch and Heirs of the Blade are scheduled to come out?", Jill Maxick [1] replied
Hi James,

Thank you for you're interest in this series. I'm afraid to say these
books are not on the Pyr schedule that's been confirmed through February
2013.

1: Vice President of Marketing; Director of Publicity Prometheus Books. Pyr is an imprint of Prometheus Books.

If anyone I know with the surname Campbell has a kid, I am going to do my best to convince them to name the child Notta Hugo.

Speaking of Hugos, nominations are now open.

Last summer Mr. Rae took over the party on the condition that he not use his heightened profile to seek the job permanently. Yet some Liberals feel he has done such a good job filling the role that they are suggesting that rules change before the party holds a leadership convention slated for 2013.

Having never shut the door on a leadership run, Mr. Rae, a former Ontario Premier, certainly sounds comfortable in his job.

“We’re an effective opposition party. I’ve been in a lot of three-party contests before. I did that in another life, in another movie, and we can do it again,” Mr. Rae said Friday.

I wonder how the last three-party contest he was a party leader in worked out for that party?

Well, filled out my form for FASS. Toddling up that a-ways on Thursday, I think.

Ah, to be back in the land of the Campus Center, VT100 terminals and the pleasant country trail up to CKMS....

BTW, very nearly got the same deal on my beard trim as I did for the election trim. No blood loss this time. Apparently this almost never happens except apparently if it's me, in which case plan for blood.
