This is a map of Germany circa 1850, from Halfway Down the Danube. I know that I am being provincial (and also that cleaning up the German map was not entirely without cost) but ew. And if I recall correctly, it was even worse before Napoleon tidied the region up a bit.
1: Assuming the 'kinda-sorta mmmmaybe' vote wins the next referendum in Quebec (possibly as soon as 2007 or 2008), the potential for hideous post-partition maps is not small.
