This was one of a number of similar "Hi, I'm New" messages posted in various groups.

Spamming spammer realizes they've been exposed and issues a fauxpology that continues to plug their product.

Is it a sign of wisdom or a symptom of NNTP-PTSD that I saw the subject line "Hi, I'm New" and *immediately* disregarded it as deceptive and probably self-serving?

No, to be fair, I assumed even odds between "spammer" and "newbie too clueless to listen to".
