But I dreamed I came across the secret original run of Marvel comics about Thor, the issues where Lee, Lieber and Kirby had him act just as one would expect from the Norse legends. The other Avengers spent a lot of their time being appalled.

Why did I read that last word as "impaled" first?

Thor is more of a blunt force trauma guy.

Can you impale someone with a thunderbolt, or are we assuming that it's more like a big hammer?

Impaled would be Oðin.

Wasn't he more into the hangings? Big on gallows I think he was.

Hanged, THEN impaled, generally.

"How'd you lose your eye?"

Wednesday shoveled half a dozen pieces of bacon into his mouth, ... "Didn't lose it," he said. "I still know exactly where it is. ...

That would be extremely cool if it actually existed!

I've always thought Thor would be a manic-depressive.

Wasp: AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Thor (on a bad day): What be the point of thy assembly? What is this quintessence of dust?

Of course, in this hypothetical series, Thor should also speak with a Swedish accent.

Real? Or Mock Swedish, like the Muppet's Swedish Chef?

Well, yes, but I don't know how to write a Swedish (or Danish or Norwegian or Old Germanic) accent.

Oh, we can always go with:

"Vhet be-a zee pueent ooff thy essembly? Vhet is thees qooeentessence-a ooff doost?"

(courtesy of the "Encheferizer")

Sure, it's not accurate Swedish, but it's good enough for Marvel!

Didn't they do that (a little) with Hercules? I remember him being illiterate and having just the worst table manners.

Yeah, Hercules was for quite some time a party-going, loudmouthed ne'er-do-well who was a massive headache whenever they had to deal with him.

Marvel-Thor has nearly always been a ridiculously noble entity who makes the other MU deities and even superheroes look bad. Mind you, given the likes of Tony Stark recently and Hank Pym, that ain't hard.

Incidentally, I ran across a bit the other day where someone attempted to explain Hank Pym: his problem is that he's really supposed to be a supervillain, but circumstances keep him a hero. This unconscious frustration is his problem.

I would pay good money for THAT version. Even though I (despite having real Nordic Ancestry) enjoy the Marvel bastardization also.

It would also be "interesting" if Thor's opponents behaved the way his traditional foes did. Like the Jotuness who tried to drown him in menstrual blood.

A full series might be a bit much, but it would certainly make for a hilarious What If? instalment.
