What do you call books that are reacting to the reaction to 9/11? That is, post-9/11 I got books that argued e.g. that what America really needs to protect itself from the deadly menace of weaponized squirrel brains is a secret service not bound to answer to anyone, especially elected officials. Now I'm seeing material that suggest that perhaps oversight is useful and fanatical devotion to the pope national security above all else may have draw backs. What do I call that material?

[Let's clarify this:

After 9/11 there were a lot of books and TV shows whose premise was that America needed security more than minutia like civil rights. Now that a few years have passed, an increasing number of books are concerned about the abuses that are justified as being necessary for security. I was wondering what the second sort of book, the one that a counter-reaction to the reaction to 9/11, is called]

[And I unlocked this because it's not like I mentioned anything by name]

This wasn't SF, although there's an SFnal fable told within it.

this is promising. it should have some reference to 9/11, it should be short, it should be snappy. hmm.

9/11 rebound fiction? the "post" is kind of understood I think.

9/11 counter-reaction fiction?

Well, the original genre, dating to the 1970s, is called "the Destroyer series"; the fact that "the constitution doesn't work" is explicit, and CURE is very specifically and intentionally outside political and governmental control. Remo and Chiun are the answer to organized crime, super-villains, and even terrorism.

I'm not surprised there's been something of a resurgence of fiction on those themes. I'm a little more surprised, even pleased, that there's backlash fiction resulting from it.

At least The Destroyer was funny.

Did TD predate Don Pendleton-style writing, or is it simultaneous? I know they both started their franchises around the same time.

Anti 9/11 or neolibertyism

People in Canada are getting more conservative so you can't say neoliberalism but they are wanting their liberty more than a few years ago.

Mostly since new 9/11 rules are still coming online, like Canadians needing passports to enter the United States.

its sounds like a modern form of the rise of fascism in post WW1 Germany in response to the attacks on American home soil as it were. Kristelnacht seems to be taken, After the Fall of the Towers sounds too Tolkienesque, so you might have to coin a new phrase or metaphor (which is what you are trying, I did get that part of the question) to evoke the response to the terrorist action. The current favor of one word catchphrases or monikers is limiting.

But he's not trying to find a phrase for the response to the terrorists; he's trying to find a phrase to fit the response to that response.

Can you name some examples? I'd like to see more of that in my fiction. Heck, I'd like to see more of that in the newspaper (there are a frightening number of people who think the current US financial crises is due to too much regulation).
