"Salaries in my field are nominally higher in US, so the reason Trump wants to annex us is to give me raise while letting me keep everything I have."

You know, fools.

There's a lot of names for it, I've seen "lizardman constant" or "sub drivers" for instance, based on two specific questions to try and quantify it.

Basically a small portion of the people answering the questions on any given poll are not actually paying attention and are giving random answers. On longer polls, you can try to detect them by asking a question like "Are you, personally, a lizardman from Alpha Centauri?" or "Do you have a license to drive a Virginia-class submarine?" And you'll find that somewhere between 1% and 10% of the people taking the poll will answer "yes" to one or both of those questions, but you can be reasonably confident that everyone should answer "no".

So while it's possible that there are some Canadians that want to be annexed, it's likely that most of that 3% were just people giving random answers to the questions.

Shocked, shocked I am that the traditional abuser's tactics of negging and then threatening violent assault in the name of "taking care of" the target is not met with unrestrained joy by an entire nation.

(Has nobody told Trump that the King Charles dude he demanded a state visit with a couple of weeks ago is the King of Canada and might have some trenchant opinions about Trump's proposal to annexe the fifty-first state in order to bring it the benefits of rule by the Republican Party?)

They've definitely not explained to him what a constitutional monarch is and what sort of opinion one who's been brought up with the motto "Ich dien" might have of a wannabe absolute monarch.

I read an article yesterday from the head of either Johnny Walker or Jack Daniels, I think it was the former, who was boo-hooing about the injustice of their liquor being taken off the shelves and going unsold. It's not tough to think where his political allegiance lies. I've also heard that you up there are shunning Kentucky bourbon, to which I doubly say 'Good on you and elbows up!' Increased unemployment in Kentucky will definitely hurt Republican electoral chances.

By the way, apparently the new Republican road map to avoid confrontation at public town halls is that they're no longer going to hold public town halls.

ROFLMAO!  I loved Ford (and how it pains me to say that!) cancelling the Starlink contract.  Hit Leon directly in the pocketbook!  And in Germany, Tesla sales are down 75%.  If "Governor" Trudeau really wants to PO the orange dumpster fire, he needs to do two things: let the Chinese start selling EVs in Canada, and start calling the dumpster fire Dictator.  Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.  So much winning down here!

FWIW, in the interest of Canada not harming itself with tariffs, if suggest starting an export ban. Specifically, potash. Will set what happens when Musk suggests using AI instead of fertilizer on farms.

I've wondered if Canadian export tariffs on trade to the US (I was thinking of electricity in particular, but other people would know better how to target them) would blow Trump's mind.

1) start fight with country that sends you lots of electricity
2) virtue signal by banning new wind, solar, any kind of "green energy" or "clean energy" production
3) fire all the federal employees who work at power generating locations like the Bonneville Dam
4) .....?
5) Profit!

The Department of Government Elimination has already been firing Bonneville Power Adminstration employees. (Obviously not anything to do with efficiency, as while they are nominally on the federal payroll, the BPA is self-funding.)

Many of us Americans agree with you. I wouldn't mind if Canada took over my state (California). I had just pre-ordered a new solar watch from a company in Canada. I pre-paid for it as well. (This is a company I've ordered from before so I'm not worried about them taking the money and running.) I emailed them yesterday to make sure that these new stupid tariffs won't suddenly jack up the price of the watch, which isn't available for some months yet. (It's Solios - they're solar-powered. I love the one I have - it's big but very lightweight. They're coming out with a smaller version (unfortunately without a second hand, but that's too common for women's watches) which I ordered in a different color of metal from the one I have.)

On a similar note, I've been wishing for a while that New Mexico could somehow expel Lea County and force Texas to annex it. It just recently occurred to me that that would raise the average intelligence of both states.

Apparently Trump's latest idea is to question the validity of the treaties delimiting the US-Canadian border. I don't suppose this means that he's going to accept the British claims (which presumably Canada would have inherited) to Oregon, Washington and northern Maine. Time for a plebiscite in Oregon and Washington?

I can't think of how it could happen, but if this shitshow could somehow end with New Mexico being a Canadian protectorate [1] I would be a happy melonfarmer.
