I'm not sure the _sex_ is supposed to be superior: my impression is that the aliens are more _attractive_, in a supernormal stimulus sort of way.

Gotta accept that plausibility really isn't the point, I guess.

My impression is very definitely that it's a supernormal stimulus, and that one character is trying to warn the other about this and its consequences. Given the title is a direct quote from La Belle Dame sans Merci, there's a very clear parallel between the space station and the cold hill.
