Cultural anthopologist Theo and her sorcerer semi-husband are hired to vet a would-be groom. How hard could _that_ be?

While City of Diamond is a de facto standalone, as I recall it did not feel like one, and I have it mentally in that category of 'books where I am still in pathetic hopefulness waiting after a ridiculously long period of time for the next volume/s'.

I share your pain. It was meant to be part of a trilogy, and Egan's website used to have an extract from the second book...

She's still alive, she could still write them in her retirement...

I have a paperback ...omnibus? I think it isn't only one novel, of Ivory something or other, in the "my hands hurt too much to hold paper books anymore" cull pile. Guess I should try placing it with someone or putting it up on eBay/similar.

The Complete Ivory (which I have as well) contains The Gate of Ivory, Two-Bit Heroes, and Guilt-Edged Ivory.

Yes, I think that's it, thank you.

I have that version. For some reason I thought that it was a trilogy in the sense of "this is it, there will be no more" rather than "this is a finished story, complete in 3 volumes." But I read it so long ago I don't remember why I thought that.

I think it is a complete trilogy.

The person who recommended it to me some years ago said it's almost a trilogy and I'll see why. Guess perhaps I won't see :) but the almost part sounds similar to your long-ago sense!

Thanks, I keep thinking I'll reread before weeding it but I might just weed it instead.

If this is her second-to-last novel and City of Diamond is a stand-alone, does that mean she never completed the trilogy? Or am I misunderstanding "second to last?"

As it happens, I just finished rereading this book (and will be starting on the next one soon). I enjoy the series more than you seem to have. I also own City of Diamond, but haven't embarked on that one yet.\

I really wish there were legit ebook versions of these.

Of the trilogy, I found this one the weakest.
