My intro to Zelazny was subscribing to Galaxy magazine when "Courts of Chaos" was being serialized, being very confused trying to read it, then noticing a friend had a lot of Zelazny books and borrowing the first 4 from him.
It was.. okay. I found most of his other stuff far more interesting. He does indeed do first person smartass well. But this was still in the "readable SF/fantasy was rare and there was less of it than could accommodate my desired reading rate, so my standards were lower" era. I think the character I liked best was a minor one, Corwin's lawyer 8-)
