Apple seems to think that the web interface at books.apple.com not being searchable doesn't matter because their app does provide searching. Maybe they'd change their minds if some notable book reviewer were to point out the potential increased exposure....

Anyway: https://books.apple.com/ca/book/the-meister-of-decimen-city/id1619387540
(adjust the /ca/ part according to your geographic tastes).

It sounds like a YA that's too emotionally authentic for me. Teenagers are *exhausting*.

FWIW, they aren't teenagers. Rex does read to be on the spectrum though, in addition to poor social skills. I'm a bit conflicted over that.

Oooh, yeah. I just got to the section that have an example for why she has PTSD. Thank you so much Captain Exposition.

Course that hero, if he knew the details of the story he was talking about, probably would have said "Cool backstory." I really don't like the guy.

The protagonist is twenty-something but messed up (to be fair, her family is a lot; she's not the only one).

On the other hand, the dinosaurs... it would be a spoiler to tell you about the dinosaurs.

So I bought this based on James' review, and one thing he failed to mention is that at least at the beginning, this is a comic/dramatic novel. I mean the dialogue pops, and the setup for scenes is perfect. There's also more than a little ire directed at superhero backstories, and how stable home life's might be better than a superpowered mentor.

That said, theain character's emotional states and family issues are treated seriously, and I'm anticipating more seriousness as the book goes on.

Bottom line, though I'm only a few chapters in, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
