Isn't the term you're looking for "loose series"? I'm surprised you found manga that fits.

For Mystery story fragments, I stopped reading Carole Nelson Douglas' Midnight Louie series when a cliffhanger from one book was not resolved in the next. I even made that a personal rule, which I immediately applied to the Wheel of Time.

Would Kage Baker's Company series count? There is the matter of a promised revelation in the future which is taken up in the last couple mainline books, but other than those every book stands on its own (and, frankly, it's a better series if you ignore those two).
